WASHINGTON: The US Senate have approved a defense budget of 716 billion USD in which the military aid to Pakistan has been reduced significantly.
The Senate passed the Defense Policy Bill with 87 votes against 10 votes. The budget approves by the senate also decides the foreign policies that the US will undertake in terms of defense. The military aid to Pakistan given by the security and coalition fund has been reduced from 175 million UDS to 115 millon USD.
Also, previously, the military aid that was dispatched to Pakistan was delivered on the condition that Pakistan will lead a crack down against militants on its own soil and the Haqqani Network in neighboring Afghanistan. The clause with this condition has also been removed from the bill.
This bill comes following President Donald Trump’s statement in January when he threatened to cut down military aid to Pakistan because he believed that Pakistan had not fulfilled its end of the deal in curbing extremism.
