QUETTA: Leaders and representatives of the Hazara sit-in vowed to end their protests after Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Qamar Bajwa guaranteed their security.
Gen Bajwa visited Quetta on Tuesday night to assess the security situation and to have a talk with Hazara representatives.
Army spokesperson, Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor, moreover, added that the Hazara leaders had informed the COAS and his team about their reservations on target killings in Quetta.
During the meeting the army chief offered his condolences and recited Fateha for the victims of the target killings.
A press release issued by ISPR read, “Those who have targeted them [the Hazara community] shall suffer twice as much”.
The army chief also stressed that “Through a unified national effort, we have turned the tide of terrorism.”
He further stated, “We have uprooted many terrorist networks and we are also aware of how these networks are being supported by hostile agencies.”
The COAS further argued, “Every Pakistani irrespective of religion, sect, language or caste has to stay steadfast and united to defeat hostile forces trying to create divisions.
The prime minister visited the area on Monday and met with the protesters. The leaders of the sit-in, however, claimed that they would only end the protest once the COAS visited them.
